Lute Music in the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries

The lute remained popular throughout the seventeenth century, although its form changed quite a bit. New bass strings were added to the six-course Renaissance lute and the instrument evolved into larger lutes with 11-, 12-, and 13-courses, and entirely different instruments such as the theorbo and archlute. Some designations for these sources are, at present, open to question; I will correct them as I examine each source . . .
